Paulo Vale Afonso is an architecture practice based in Porto, Portugal.
It works on the basis of collaborative working networks, on what we like to call Collaborative Creative Process.

We consider architecture to be a creative process and cultural production focusing on space,
territory and society, rooted deep within its context and time. We believe that architecture
is a collective work based on collaboration and cooperation between individuals.

Paulo Vale Afonso is part of RAS·A.

Paulo do Vale Afonso (1982.Ponte de Lima, Portugal) is graduated in architecture from the Architecture Department of Coimbra’s University (Portugal) and NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). Since 2009 he has been collaborating with several architecture offices in Portugal, Barcelona, Peru and Macau, amongst which OAB – Carlos Ferrater Partnership and 51-1 Arquitectos , the peruvian branch of Supersudaca. He has worked on several international projects of various scales and was a project leader in 51-1 Arquitectos, responsible for the design and delivery of major projects, such as collective housing projects Arawa, SO3555, and Palmeras, or the Ciudad del Rio masterplan, amongst others.

He’s co-founder of AMA – Afonso Maccaglia Architecture (2012-2014) where he has developed mainly educational projects in the Peruvian jungle, awarded in the XIX Bienal Panamericana de Quito 2014 and finalists in the “Oscar Niemeyer” Award of Latin-American Architecture 2016 and X BIAU 2016.

Has been shortlisted as one of the 10 architects/studios selected worldwide to the Début Award for architects under the age of 35 of the 4th Lisbon Architecture Triennale in 2016, and his work has been presented in conferences and published worldwide.

He is currently residing and working in Portugal, where he works through his own studio and also through several collaborations. He is a co-founder/partner of RAS·A and a founder and collaborator of Morfema Magazine.

Besides architecture, he also explores photography, interested in space as the subject, as well as the relationship between subjects and space.
